Officially, the Thurston Green Business program, administered by the Thurston County Chamber, features a county-wide designation program, recognizing area businesses who are taking significant steps toward sustainability, and offers certification in six categories. Why is a Smart Energy Today a Thurston Green Business?
SET, one of “America’s Fastest Growing Private Energy Companies” as designated by Inc. Magazine’s annual list, teaches customers how to reduce energy cost, lower energy consumption, and increase comfort. At same time SET provides homeowners and businesses with a quality range of energy efficient products and guaranteed services including photovoltaic solar system design, installation and maintenance. This qualifies SET in the category of “Green Products & Services”. Another Thurston Green Business category SET is certified in is “Buying and Selling Green”.
“Buying Green” is a little different. A significant step for any company, SET recently became a paperless company. SET has employees (hired from right here in Thurston County) spread out across 8 states and a paperless system improves service delivery times, saves the company money and is better for the environment. Purchasing the software to make this logistically possible qualifies as “Buying Green”. Additionally, the company sources office equipment and supplies, printing, signage, commercial real estate, janitorial services, vehicle maintenance and other services from nearby businesses, many of them also members of the Thurston Green Business program.
COO Yumi Schade had this the company’s inclusion in the Thurston Green Business program,
“It means a lot to us to be recognized as a Thurston Green Business. We will continue to work hard everyday to provide high quality and competitively priced products for home improvements that will decrease homeowners’ energy consumption!”
The company members of the Thurston County Chamber recently featured Yumi Schade and SET in the “Startup Playbook” series featured inside the chamber’s magazine the Voice. The “Startup Playbook” focuses on startups and the entrepreneurs behind them
