New business creation is an important part of the economic engine for our society – thus every year thousands of new businesses are started by true entrepreneurs.   However, according to the Small Business Administration within two years 70% of those businesses will have failed.  That’s not the case with Smart Energy Today, Inc. (SET).  The small business which is led by entrepreneurs Rex & Yumi Schade has found success providing homeowners and businesses with a range of energy efficient products and services including photovoltaic solar system design, installation and maintenance.  This month the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce highlighted SET as part of their “Startup Playbook” series in the chambers bi-monthly magazine called the Voice.

Thurston County Chamber is one of the largest Chambers in the state

COO Yumi Schade stated, “It’s was an honor for the company to be chosen by the Chamber to be featured in this months Startup Playbook”.  One of the largest chambers in the state, the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce is focused on creating a positive climate for business to succeed.  According to Natasha Ashenhurst, who writes for the Startup Playbook series, “The Chamber kicked off the Startup Playbook series with our July/August 2014 edition.  The goal of the series is to examine Thurston County startups – and the entrepreneurs behind them – to learn what’s working and what’s not, and search for a pattern to success.  We want to encourage entrepreneurship in our region, and we believe that sharing stories is a great way to begin.”  As a member of the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce SET was an easy choice to be featured in the Startup Playbook series.




The Startup Playbook series has featured three companies including SET.  The other two companies are RHD Enterprises, Inc. and Kitson Boards, Inc..  RHD Enterprises works on projects that range from EPA & FDA laboratory modernization’s to roofing projects throughout Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.  The other company, Kitson Boards, Inc., makes stand up paddleboards that are stronger and lighter with next gen, hollow carbon fiber technology.  Click here to read this months Voice Magazine and find Smart Energy Today featured in the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce Startup Playbook series beginning on page 12.
